EAASM report - The FMD - Implementing practical solutions in the hospital arena
Our General Manager Maija Gohlke-Kokkonen was invited to speak at a roundtable which took place on 19 February in the European Parliament. Here we have an innovative report from the European Alliance for Access to Safe Medicines (EAASM) highlighting the anticipated costs and practicality of implementing the Falsified Medicines Directive within the hospital.
In response to the implementation of verification protocol and decommissioning of prescription packs within the hospital setting, the EAASM worked to develop a programme that would facilitate positive and constructive dialogue and share potential solutions to help support the implementation of the safety features of the FMD within the hospital environment. This report was a direct output of those discussions with comprehensive inputs from all the speakers.
The report also highlights the extra resource and cost that will be potentially be required and how the medicine authentication systems using artificial intelligence and automation may ultimately reduce this whilst at the same time increasing efficiency within the hospital and thus enhancing patient safety.
