A Healthy Start in Life Leads to a More Hopeful Future

World Health Day is celebrated on April 7th. This year, the World Health Organization’s year-long campaign focuses on the health of mothers and newborns. The campaign urges governments and healthcare stakeholders to intensify their efforts to prevent maternal and child mortality and to ensure the well-being of women.

There are certainly many challenges. It is estimated that nearly 300,000 women die each year due to pregnancy or childbirth-related causes. Over 2 million babies die within their first month of life, and around 2 million are stillborn. Unfortunately, current trends are not moving in the right direction. For example, one in three countries has failed to reduce newborn mortality as targeted.

Throughout the campaign year, WHO and its partners will share information with women and families to support healthy pregnancies and births, as well as better postnatal health. Health systems must also evolve to better manage pregnancy-related health issues. In addition to reducing direct birth complications, development efforts include family planning, prevention of mental health issues, and non-communicable diseases.

Fimvo is doing its part in the World Health Day campaign through its daily work to enhance the safety of medicines for mothers and newborns. As a parent, you can ensure that you and your child only use genuine and safety-tested medicines by obtaining them from a licensed pharmacy.
