We are celebrating an important anniversary at FiMVO!
The European Medicines Verification System (EMVS) went live across Europe on 9th February 2019 and has been successfully operating for 1 year.
The EMVS is a central European repository which was founded to protect patients from the risk of falsified medicines. Falsified medicines can contain anything.
Paint, rat poison and cement are but a few ingredients which have been found in falsified medicines. Medicines falsification is the world’s largest falsified market. All sorts of products are falsified, from inexpensive pain killers to costly cancer treatments.
28 national systems run by national medicine verification organisations connect to the EMVS which is operated and managed by EMVO. Each national medicine verification organisation works with stakeholders in their own country, as well as working closely with their European colleagues to share and gain experience, building a stable environment across Europe.
The first year of verification has gone smoothly, without hindering dispensing to patients and FiMVO would like to thank you for all your help!
